Founded in 1950, the Formula 1 automobile race competitions are the best of the best when it comes to auto racing competitions in the world. Starting out small in Europe, the race gradually grew and expanded to the sport we know and love today, with several top-tier races taking place across the globe. Abu Dhabi, Las Vegas, and Miami are some of the most famous.

The Formula 1 Mexico Grand Prix is much like the others in its category: It’s an incredible experience, and staying up to date on the sport’s top racers and teams makes the experience even better. Outside of the race itself, a trip to explore Mexico City is just as compelling and makes for a great way to spend time with family or friends.

We put together everything you need to know about seeing the upcoming Mexico City Grand Prix, including getting the best deals on tickets, whether you want ticket packages, grandstand seats, or general admission tickets. Whatever kind of official ticket you need, TickPick has it.

F1 Mexico City Info

The Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix began in 1959 with plans to build a proper racing circuit using existing roads in the area. By 1962, work on the racecourse we know as the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez was completed, and the first Formula 1 cars competed in a non-championship race. The first official championship race began in 1963, with Jim Clark crowned the champion of that first competition.

The F1 Mexico City Grand Prix location got its name from the famous car-racing brothers Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez.

Outside of the Formula 1 races, the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez course also hosted several other championships, including Formula E, NASCAR, and the World Endurance Championship.

The Best Seats for F1 Mexico

While all seats are worth it, your budget and desired experience will affect the grandstand or “grada” you choose.

Some of the best seats to watch the race unfold include the Foro Sol Grandstand (Grandstand 15). This is one of the top vantage points for a view of the F1 drivers’ cockpits as they pass by. The main grandstands (1 and 2) are across the finish line and pit lane, making them a very desirable spot.

Trackside spots in the “Blue Grandstands” (Grandstand 3 to Grandstand 6) are popular; spectators can see the track and have some of the stadium feel here.

The Formula 1 Paddock Club is the ultimate luxury come race day. It offers prime seating, pitlane walks, visits to team garages, appearances from motorsports celebrities, and world-class food.

Formula 1 Mexico City Updates

The 2022 Formula 1 Mexico Grand Prix saw Max Verstappen win the championship, which added to his other 13 Formula 1 championship wins. The champion Verstappen claimed victory over rival Lewis Hamilton and fellow Red Bull driver Sergio Perez.

The win marks a career-high for the Dutch racer who recently achieved the most wins in a single Formula 1 campaign, putting him in the same bracket as major racers Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel.

The Mercedes and Ferrari drivers didn’t perform as well as some would have hoped, with Mercedes driver George Russel repeatedly making pit stops because of his tires and Aston Martin trailing as well. Overall, Lewis Hamilton clocked in second, with Sergio Perez coming in third. George Russel with Mercedes came in fourth, and Carlos Sainz with Ferrari clocked in fifth.

Where To Park at F1 Mexico Grand Prix

Before you can watch people drive, you need to park. Parking is worth figuring out

before you head to any type of event — including the F1 race in Mexico City. You probably want to leave your car at your hotel or home since there’s no official parking connected to this Grand Prix. If you absolutely must bring your car, nearby unaffiliated parking lots are available.

The closest parking lots to the Autodromos Hermanos Circuit are between a two-minute and 10-minute walk to the circuit. The closest parking lot is open 24 hours and is the most convenient option, which makes this also the most popular option, so you should be prepared for a nearly full parking lot.

Estacionamiento F1 GPMEX is a parking lot ten minutes away from the circuit that is only open Wednesday through Sunday. The other parking lot, Sie Park Estacionamiento, is open 24 hours — but it’s also a ten-minute walk, which might not be very convenient.

How you choose to get to the circuit is up to you. Just keep in mind that the circuit has no official parking lot, and they encourage visitors to take advantage of public transportation or ridesharing.

How To Get Around at the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix

One of the best ways to navigate Mexico City is through the city’s public transport. The Mexico City metro can take you from the airport to your destination in the city at a low cost. The city’s metro system is quick and efficient, making it more convenient than driving.

Other ways of getting around the city and to the F1 Grand Prix include ridesharing options and taxis. Since the competition doesn’t have its own dedicated parking lot and since the lots nearby will most likely be congested, it’s probably best to take advantage of one of these options.
